Castle Rock Gift & Garden, Castle Rock, CO

This 5-acre retail operation has been around for 11 years and brings in close to $1.5 million a year in overall sales figures. The focus here is on quality customer service and paying attention to detail.
"Everyone is cross-trained, and we excel in customer service down to the smallest detail," writes owner Marijane Thomas. Cross merchandising is a large part of the display strategy at Castle Rock.
The newest item at the retailer is stickers, a simple, yet very effective solution for customers. "A big problem in Colorado is educating customers on the importance of winter water, so we had stickers made that have raindrops on them so that customers could mark their calendars," writes Thomas.
Margin is the focus when those at Castle Rock go to shows to buy. "We go into the show knowing how much we bought last year, how much we have in inventory, and what we want for the following year," she writes. "We receive additional dating and up to 20 percent discounts - all of which hits our bottom line."
