This is the second year Countryside has appeared on the TGC list. A nearly 5-year-old operation set on 1 acre, creativity is its specialty - especially in the point-of-purchase material and signage.
One example is the POP for English Butterfly Bushes. "(It) says 'Beverly planted one of these dwarf English Butterfly Bushes in the front flower bed. See the results for yourself!'" writes owner Tish Llaneza. "You can stand inside and watch the people mosey over to the gardens. A large portion of our guests are repeat customers and they know Beverly, and she probably knows their name. It starts a conversation, thus forming a relationship. You won't find that at the big boxes."
The food line, too, has notes from employees posted above the items. "The jars of Countryside Gardens Vidalia Onion & Peach Salsa have a note reading 'Tish marinates chicken breast and bakes at 350 degrees for 25 minutes - delicious!'" she writes. "We also have free recipe card handouts."
Llaneza says Countryside recently sponsored the local newspaper's online gardening column and e-mail newsletter.
