This is the first year this retailer has appeared on our 100 Revolutionary Garden Centers list. It's a 4½ acre site that has been around for 23 years and brings in about $2 million a year.
They host two major events every year, a holiday open house in the first week of December and a Summer Picnic, which is in the second week of June. The events feature refreshments, music, games and seminars.
Owner Marylou Baiata work hard to bring in new, exclusive lines that no one else has to set her store apart from the competition. "My customers know that we always have the most unusual plants and garden art. We offer free delivery when the customer spends $50 or more."
She says her biggest mistake in business was to keep the plant warranty vague. She tightened up the verbiage now to read "Nature Scapes guarantees all plants to be disease and insect free in plant Zone 9 for one year. Not responsible for improper watering. Acts of God excluded."
