blank This 22-year-old operation exceeds its customers' expectations by going above and beyond in customer service.

A new marketing idea that is truly revolutionary is the Garden Party Bridal Showers in the garden center.

"Here's how it worked in one particular example," writes co-owner Chris Carter. "We worked with the friends of the bride who wanted to give her a shower. We provided the space, tables, fans and sound system. They provided a light meal and dessert. The bride- and groom-to-be were going to be moving into a new home when they returned from their honeymoon."

"We sent a designer out to their new home. He drew a plan for their landscaping with their input. As soon as we were closed on a Saturday afternoon the guests started to arrive. The landscape plan was on display with a plant list that included prices. The guests were encouraged to wander the nursery and see the plants and descriptions of the items used in the plan. As the shower went on, guests were able to buy gift certificates either by dollar amount or by specific plant. These were present to the bride-to-be at the conclusion of the party."

"Probably half of the people who attended the shower I told you about had never been to our place," adds Carter.
