This Atlanta-area retailer has been a mainstay since 1958, when it was founded by William "Pete" Pike, who continues to serve as a consultant to the operation today. His son, Randy, is the president and CEO. The operation runs 28 locations, including 26 in Atlanta-area and one in Birmingham, Ala. The retailer opened another store in Charlotte, N.C., in March 2006. Some of the retail operations are solely stone and aquatic centers, providing a unique niche business.
Pike Family Nurseries offers a wealth of information on its Web site, including tips and advice from gardening guru Walter Reeves and inspirational ideas for the garden and home.
It also has launched a new initiative to increase water gardening sales by partnering with Aquascapes Designs to host Build-A-Pond events to teach interested homeowners how to create their own ponds.
