 It's the first year on the list for this 3-acre, 38-year-old single location. The business was purchased by Delores and Wally Steinhauser from her parents in January 2006. Currently it is around a $1 million operation.
They began a radio and print advertising campaign this year, and also started capturing e-mail addresses to send out a monthly e-newsletter.
They are using the POS system to track customer purchases and frequency of visits, as well as to manage inventory.
"We intend to use this information to provide a supplier scorecard at the end of the year that provides feedback to our vendors on timeliness of receipt, quality of plants, order accuracy, delivery professionalism and to quantify the monetary value of our relationship to the supplier," writes Wally Steinhauser. "Separately, it allows us to track sales performance of varieties of the same plant and determine whether our experience is consistent with the supplier's overall sales experience."
