The 5-acre retailer has been in business for 26 years, and in February is expecting to open a second location in Columbia.
The new location is part of a larger retail and residential complex designed to bring in more traffic. Owner Rick Woodley is one of six investors in the overall development, called Ballentine Village Gardens. He is still, however, the sole owner of the new Woodley's location that will be situated in Ballentine Village Gardens.
The other retail stores around the new garden center will be rented out to companies that complement the lifestyle theme, such as outdoor living, home and fine living stores. And, 61 garden homes have been built adjacent to the retail portion, of which Woodley will have landscaping rights to even after they were sold to the builder. The plan includes a retention pond doubling as a lighted landscaping piece, as well as walking trails and beautifully landscaped homes that will serve as display pieces for potential customers.
Woodley's Garden Center was the cover story for the June 2006 Today's Garden Center.
