Perfect Display? Mess It Up
Make pristine works of art, and no one will shop your displays.
Great displays always sell product, right? Well, maybe not, especially if the displays are too great.
Challenge: You have created a beautifully merchandised display with plants, containers, gifts and other merchandise, but customers are afraid to shop from it.
Solution: Erik Friedli, merchandise manager and buyer with Flamingo Road Nursery in Davie, Fla., says to just mess things up. Friedli encourages people to shop from displays by taking a piece out of the display and setting it on the floor next to it. The customer will see the hole and is more likely to realize they’re not looking at a piece of artwork; it’s OK to shop from there.
