Hicks Nurseries planted a Pretty In Pink display garden at its 17th annual flower show to raise funds for breast cancer programs and pay homage to those who have been affected by the disease. Plants in the garden included tulips, coral bells, roses, rhododendrons. A portion of the sales of certain plants were donated to national breast cancer programs through the Pink Ribbon Plant Program of Prides Corner Farms. Varnau’s Garden Center in West Chester, Ohio, meanwhile, is offering customers the ‘Remember Me’ hosta, developed by Walter’s Gardens. Each purchase will generate a donation to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation. The plant is grown in honor of Sandy DeBoer, a Walter’s Gardens employee who lost her fight against breast cancer. To date, more than $20,000 has been raised through sales of ‘Remember Me’ hostas to help fund breast cancer research. Walter’s Gardens can be found at www.waltersgardens.com.
