“Backyard Games” Tests Strength of Web for PR Campaigns

Power equipment supplier Husqvarna is hoping to create one of those rare PR campaigns that gather a large cult following with a new Web-based reality series that began May 31.

Each episode of “Backyard Games” is divided into three contests, one that tests competitors’ speed, another that test performance under pressure and one that requires finesse.

Naturally, the tests are built around Husqvarna products. One contest featured contestants retrieving a pineapple from an ice block with a chain saw. Another showed the participants trying to control a ball using only a leaf blower.

Husqvarna invested in quality videography and talent. Former HGTV personality Paul Ghiringhelli hosts while comedian Brian Unger provides color commentary.
