Greenscape Gardens has the best of both worlds.

This 16-year-old garden center in Manchester, Mo., just outside St. Louis, has experienced owners in John and Sally Loyet, who weathered recession before in the 1980s with a lawn and tree care company. On the flip side, it also has an enthusiastic staff with its finger on the pulse of new trends and a fun way of retailing garden products, led by garden center manager Jennifer Schamber, who is also John and Sally’s daughter.
