Calloway’s & Cornelius Announce Year-Long Kids Series

Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery in Texas announced recently it will host educational gardening events at all its 19 locations throughout the year targeted at children ages 5 to 10.

Starting Sunday, Feb. 13, children accompanied by a parent are encouraged to visit any of the stores to participate in a free potting station to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

A similar event will take place on Mother’s Day, May 8.

“At Calloway’s, we really do love kids,” says Kimberly Bird, vice president of retail marketing. “We’re very excited to have these little gardeners in the nursery so they can learn about nature, recycling and, of course, planting.”

This is something that all independent garden centers should be doing. My love of gardening started at an early age. The Cleveland Public Schools at the time had a summer gardening program. I’ll never forget the excitement when the plants and seeds were delivered to me at school and I took them home to plant. All IGC’s should be starting their next generations of gardeners like this.
