Halloween Idea: Host A Plants Vs. Zombies Party

Plants Vs. Zombies

Zombies are everywhere these days! From television shows to zombie-themed running events, it seems zombies are taking over the world. So why not capitalize on the zombie trend by hosting an event in your garden center?

My kids, ages 5 and 7, are wild about an app called Plants Vs. Zombies. It’s a game that can be downloaded to iPads, iPhones and Androids, and that kids of all ages enjoy–including adult kids. And now, there is an all-new Plants Vs. Zombies 2, which debuted August 15, 2013.

The cool thing about Plants Vs. Zombies is that veggie and flower plants are the good guys, defending against waves of zombie intruders. The kids get so excited when they get a new plant, whether it be a triple pea-shooter, an onion, a sunflower or an umbrella plant. They compete to see who can take out the most zombies and the game has even inspired new ways to get them to eat their veggies!

Why not cultivate this excitement for plants by bringing Plants Vs. Zombies to life this Halloween? Your staff members could dress up like zombies, and kids and their parents could take turns pelting them with corn, peas and tomatoes. You could bring in a scary storyteller, teach kids to plant pots of vegetable plants or even host a kids’ cooking class.

If you want to get really festive, serve a zombified cake and treats, and send out invitations to bring plant-lovers to your event, costumes optional.

Plants Vs. Zombies is a natural fit for a fun garden center event. Have fun this Halloween and get kids involved and excited about plants in a whole new way.
