Hines Growers is re-launching its popular Patio Tropics line with new proprietary genetics and exclusive, never-before-seen plants that are perfect for decks, patios and landscapes.
“For the garden centers, this means they’ll have intense color for instant impact and greater impulse buying by consumers from May to October,” says Joe Gray, Hines’ senior vice president. “And it’s great news for colder climates like the northeast where consumers who long for tropical color can now grow plants from spring through fall.”
Gray says that all plants in Patio Tropics feature abundant blooms on unique and substantial plants. Featured new plants in the Patio Tropics rollout include new Crinum and Adeniums, Ixora, Euphorbia milli and patio trees and Mandevilla. Patio Tropics like their Bambino Bougainvillea, Agapanthus and new Bahama Bay Hibiscus are crossovers included in Hines’ Bloomtastic! program.
“We’re re-invigorating Bahama Bay Hibiscus with new beauties like ‘Eyes of Texas’ and ‘Almost Heaven’ that fit the Bloomtastic! criteria,” says Gray.
The new Bougainvillea multi-colored patio trees have thick stems that look like old trees with multiple colored flowers on the same plant and are perfect for any size patio or deck, Gray says.
Hines plans to add new plants to the mix that are either outstanding Hines’ proprietary genetics, offered to Hines for propriety use by independent breeders, or strong plants that have been overlooked and fallen through the cracks.
Patio Tropics! are available in branded 10-inch to 14-inch sizes with branded tags, labels, signage, and Q-R codes for smart phone users. Both lines are available in 2012 independent garden centers and large retailers like Home Depot.
