All-America Selections Announces 2007 Winners
All-America Selections recently announced the four 2007 AAS Winners, the year in which AAS celebrates its 75th Diamond Anniversary. The winners are:
Celosia ‘Fresh Look Gold’
Correctly named, they look as fresh in September as they did in May. It grows about a foot tall and wide, and is recommended for 6-inch pot plant production for spring or fall sales. ‘Fresh Look Gold’ is a season-long performer, great for corporate or municipal plantings because of its low care and high visual impact.
Petunia ‘Opera Supreme Pink Morn’
The iridescent pink blooms are the unique feature of this vigorous trailing petunia. The 2-inch flowers are pink, shading to creamy white in the center with a yellow throat. It is capable of spreading 3 feet in sunny locations and is recommended for landscape use.
Vinca ‘Pacifica Burgundy Halo’
The first vinca with a burgundy halo surrounding the large white center, this bicolor bloom is a vivid contrast and highly visible in the garden center. It is early flowering with a well-branched habit, and is recommended for spring pot plant sales. It is heat and drought tolerant and suitable for landscape use and municipal mass plantings.
Pepper ‘Holy Molé’
This is the first hybrid pasilla-type pepper, which is used to make molé sauce. It showed improved vigor, earliness and higher yield than the comparisons in side-by-side trials. The peppers are 7- to 9-inches long and can be harvested in 85 days after transplanting. The pepper flavor is nutty and tangy. These plants are perfect for patio containers, as well.
